Craig Novak

Craig was a distant cousin of Princess Diana, and joined the Communicator in the Spring of 1985. Craig stayed until the end of LASER, and was one of the DJs who brought the ship back to shore.

Craig Novak was working in Worcester, Massachusetts in the USA in March 1985 when he saw an article in the radio trade publication “Radio and Records” about a radio station on a ship off the coast of England.  He was fascinated and immediately sent in a tape and resume hoping to be hired.  Two weeks later he was on a plane headed for London.  A few days later he was on the MV Communicator waiting for a new aerial to be installed.  He made his debut on Laser 558 in early May.

Craig was also on the ship when it finally sailed back to land in November 1985.  Lack of fuel and equipment failures made it necessary to bring the ship in for safety’s sake.

After Craig returned to the US, he became a station manager and eventually the owner of nine radio stations in upstate New York, near Rochester.  Ironically, Craig spent time in Rochester in Kent while waiting to be transported to the Communicator.  Craig is married and has two grown children.

Occasionally Criag searches the internet for any new information on Laser.  He was happy to see the “new” Laser online and has been happy to participate in the rebirth.
