Steve Bannister
Steve began his radio career after being inspired by the launch of the original LASER558 and the existence of similar stations. From being an avid listener of everything radio from the mid-1970s, he joined his local Hospital Radio station in 1984 after he left school, spending years learning the trade. Complementing his radio work, Steve began a career as a mobile disc jockey, which was to last over thirty years. Having also included a karaoke roadshow into his mobile work, Steve spent three years in South Africa from 1991, taking the first mobile disco and karaoke roadshow into the country. After emigrating to Australia in 2005, Steve joined three local radio stations and helped develop them into more viable and profitable stations while, each week, presenting a four-hour radio version of his mobile show, The Best Party in Town.
Now being called on for his consultancy work, Steve found he was being approached regularly to assist radio stations in maximising their potential. These community stations gave local groups a more prominent voice while also growing their memberships. Steve’s consultancy work then led to design, and Steve designed, built, and licenced local community stations in Australia. After returning to the UK in 2019, Steve developed radio services for aspiring community radio stations making application, development and design more accessible. Working primarily with stations of niche markets, Steve decided to return to his roots, where it all began and developed a reconstruction of LASER558.
